WESTSHORE HELPS CLIENTS ACHIEVE BUSINESS BENEFITS

Successful projects require solid project management, thoughtful organizational change management, and excellent leadership.

Organizations undertake change for a reason: they want to achieve some tangible benefits that advance their organizational mission. Whether it is increased customer or constituent satisfaction, greater efficiencies in organizational structure and business processes, or ability to make better management decisions through access to more comprehensive data, every change initiative starts with an idea for improvement. In order to reap those benefits, organizations must pay attention to these three critical components.

Elements for Project Success

As an Advanced Certified Scrum Product Owner (A-SCPO), Certified Scrum Master (CSM), and advanced Prosci® Certified Practioner, I draw on the disciplines of Scrum and apply Prosci principles to help clients realize business benefits from their change initiatives. Westshore Management Consulting specializes in project and product management, change mangement, and leadership development and support.

PROJECT & PRODUCT MANAGEMENT

Project and Product Management concern the technical and logistical aspects of a project as well as the careful consideration of business value to a client. This is true whether the project is a large IT transformation initiative or a small business process improvement effort. A project or product manager’s primary focus is ensuring that all of the tasks necessary to complete the project have been completed on time and on budget.

Project management requires a set of methodical processes and tools.
CHANGE MANAGEMENT

Change Management concerns the people side of change. The change manager’s focus is ensuring that the people who are affected by the change understand why the change is taking place, are willing to support the change, know how to implement the change, and have the necessary reinforcements to make the change permanent.

Change management requires a set of methodical processes and tools.
LEADERSHIP

Excellent project leadership, above the level of the project manager and change manager, is the number one predictor that a project will meet its objectives.

Leaders typically support project and product management through a project governance process that sets and adjusts project scope, assigns organizational and financial resources, and addresses risks and issues that cannot be resolved at the project level. Leaders support change management through project sponsorship through active and visible participation throughout the project, building a coalition of leaders to co-sponsor the effort, and communicating directly with employees about the change. Leadership development initiatives help to foster excellence in leadership to support the other two aspects of a project. For change management, in particular, leadership requires heart.
